Forum Systems Inc. has released a 90-day trial version of its XWallT Web Services firewall with XML intrusion prevention for qualified developers.
Web Services firewalls are deployed in front of the application as a centralized
security policy enforcement engine. Trusted data passes through and XML threats are blocked before they reach a Web service or application.
Forum says XWallT is the first Web services firewall to include intrusion prevention defenses protecting against XML viruses, data-level corruption and denial of service attacks.
"One of the most difficult tasks a developer of Web service applications faces is the implementation of security controls and content filters within the program logic. Externalizing these controls and defenses into an appliance that can be shared across many applications is an effective approach to improving developer productivity and achieving a higher and more consistent level of security," Phil Schacter, vice president directory and security strategies, Burton Group.
Forum also announced that XWallT supports Oracle database 10G and Oracle application server 10G adding security to grid applications against SOAP and XML vulnerabilities.
Hackers can exploit flaws in SOAP messages to crash application or database servers. These flaw could impact backend applications as they become Web services-aware, Forum said.
